Modern Engineering Solutions isn’t another civil engineering firm stuck in the old ways.
We built this company because we were tired of watching talented engineers get promoted into project management roles without proper training or support. Tired of seeing good technical engineers struggle because they were never taught how to manage clients, budgets, or teams. Tired of the “trial by fire” approach that burns people out.
Since 2018, we’ve completed 265+ projects by doing things differently. Our project managers work remotely, use AI to handle administrative tasks, and focus on what matters: delivering quality projects that solve real problems for clients. No unnecessary meetings. No office politics. Just solid engineering and a clear development path that doesn’t require sacrificing your life outside of work.
You’ll Be Perfect For This Role If:
You’re a Project Manager/EIT or newly licensed PE with 2-6 years of civil engineering experience, and you’re frustrated with how most firms develop project managers. Maybe you’re tired of:
↳ Being stuck between production work and actual project leadership with no clear path forward
↳ Managing timelines and budgets without the authority or training to do it well
↳ Working late nights in an office coordinating work that could be done remotely
↳ Vague promises about “leadership opportunities” with no real mentorship or development plan
You want to lead commercial development projects warehouses, retail centers, master-planned communities and actually own the engineering decisions and client relationships, not just relay messages between drafters and senior engineers.
You’re ready to use modern tools (including AI) to manage projects more efficiently, and you understand that great project management means solving problems proactively, not just updating schedules reactively.
What We Believe
How we run things differently:
We Develop Project Managers, Not Just Coordinators
Your value isn’t how many status updates you can send—it’s how well you anticipate problems, make sound engineering decisions, and deliver quality projects on time and on budget. A project manager who catches a grading conflict before it reaches the field? That’s what separates good firms from great ones.
Mentorship From Experienced PEs
We pair every project manager with a senior PE who actually has time to develop your technical judgment and leadership skills. Not “figure it out yourself” mentorship—structured guidance where you learn how to balance client needs, technical requirements, and team capacity.
Real Authority With Real Support
You’ll have genuine decision-making authority on your projects—but you’re never left to sink or swim alone. You’ll know when to make the call yourself and when to pull in senior technical expertise.
AI Handles Project Admin
We use AI for generating progress reports, formatting submittal packages, and drafting client communication. You still do all the project management and engineering coordination—AI just eliminates the administrative tasks that waste your time.
Clear Growth Path
We don’t just say “you’ll advance eventually.” Whether you’re pursuing your PE license or already have it, we have a structured development plan: what you should master by month 6, month 12, month 24. We track your progress and make sure you’re building the skills for senior leadership.
We Keep Improving
“That’s how we’ve always done it” isn’t acceptable. We’re constantly refining our project delivery methods, adopting better coordination approaches, and staying current with regulations—and we expect you to do the same.
What You’ll Do
Lead commercial site development projects from kickoff through construction support:
↳ Manage complete project delivery for commercial developments, including timelines, budgets, and quality standards
↳ Serve as primary client contact for technical discussions, progress updates, and scope coordination
↳ Coordinate internal teams—assign work to drafters and junior engineers, review their deliverables, and ensure consistency
↳ Oversee technical design including site layout, grading, drainage systems, and utility coordination
↳ Prepare and review engineering calculations for stormwater management, detention sizing, and utility design
↳ Lead permitting efforts with municipal, county, and state agencies (TCEQ, local jurisdictions)
↳ Conduct site visits to gather survey data, verify existing conditions, and support construction administration
↳ Manage project documentation including design decisions, client communications, and submittal packages
↳ Support business development by contributing to proposals and building client relationships
↳ Mentor junior team members in technical skills and project coordination

Why This Matters
Right now, most firms promote engineers into project management based on technical skills alone then provide minimal training on how to actually manage projects, clients, or teams. People struggle, projects suffer, and talented engineers either burn out or plateau.
We’re changing that.
When you join us, you’re proving that project managers can be developed systematically, contribute strategic value, and advance their careers without sacrificing quality of life or working 60-hour weeks.
From commercial developments to municipal infrastructure, you’ll lead projects that shape how communities grow and you’ll have the support, tools, and mentorship to do it well.
This Role Isn’t For Everyone
We’re probably not the right fit if you:
↳ Just want to execute tasks without taking ownership of outcomes
↳ Think AI and modern tools have no place in engineering (we use them extensively)
↳ Prefer being told exactly what to do rather than developing judgment
↳ Believe “that’s how we’ve always done it” is a valid reason
↳ Need constant supervision or struggle with remote work independence
But if you’re ready to step into real project leadership where modern tools eliminate busywork, structured mentorship accelerates your development, and working remotely doesn’t limit your career growth let’s talk.
How to Apply
Send us three things:
↳ Your resume highlighting your project management and civil/site design experience
↳ A brief cover letter explaining why this approach to developing project managers resonates with you
↳ A 3-minute video explaining how you would approach managing a commercial site development project from kickoff through permitting
