Industrial zero-discharge reuse in Taylor, TX, approved within 6 weeks of submission

A TCEQ 210E reuse authorization, approved within 6 weeks of submission, let an industrial site in Taylor, Texas, start operations on schedule after the county denied septic.

About the project

The problem

An industrial-only facility in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas, produces process wastewater and wastewater from equipment cleaning.

Williamson County denied the septic permit. Its concerns were the industrial wastewater constituents and the site's geological limits.

Traditional on-site disposal was not viable. A discharge permit would have faced a long review and possible opposition.

The pathway

MES pursued a TCEQ 210E reuse authorization instead. The system treats domestic wastewater, process wastewater and industrial washwater, then reuses the reclaimed water on site.

It is sized for a design flow of 5,000 gallons per day.

The 210E pathway gave the site clean industrial reclaimed water under TCEQ oversight.

The reclaimed water goes to landscape irrigation and to the fire protection system. The system is self-contained, so no wastewater is discharged off site.

MES ran the calculations, prepared and updated the application, drafted a letter and finished a specification.

The result

TCEQ granted the 210E authorization within 6 weeks of submission. That is about 22 months sooner than a discharge permit would have taken.

The authorization let the facility start operations on schedule. Its reuse system removes any off-site discharge concern and gives the facility complete control of its operation.
