Business park reuse after a county septic denial in Taylor, TX

A TCEQ 210E reuse authorization in 4 weeks kept a Taylor, Texas, business park on schedule after the county denied septic.

About the project

The problem

A business park in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas, needed a wastewater solution.

Williamson County denied the septic permit. Platting issues and site constraints made conventional on-site treatment infeasible.

Traditional disposal was not viable. A discharge permit would have faced a long review and possible opposition.

The pathway

MES pursued a TCEQ 210E reuse authorization instead. That took the wastewater out of county jurisdiction and put it under state TCEQ oversight, with a zero-discharge reclaimed water system.

The system takes domestic wastewater, cooling system water, and water from equipment cleaning and facility maintenance.

The reclaimed water irrigates the business park's landscaping and supplies its fire protection system.

MES also did the site civil design: site, utility, paving and grading plans, plus drainage calculations and a drainage report.

The team drew the wastewater management plan, with its sewer and irrigation lines, sprayer head fields and wastewater pond grading.

MES prepared the fire line plans and the submittals for Williamson County fire marshal review.

MES also prepared the plat application and submitted it to Williamson County.

The result

TCEQ approved the 210E authorization in 4 weeks. That is about 23 months sooner than a discharge permit would have taken.

The 4-week approval let the developer keep its construction schedule.

The self-contained reuse system has no off-site discharge, and the owner keeps full control of its operation.
