About the project
The problem
Jefferson County Public Library was expanding the Belmar Library in Lakewood, Colorado, with a new outdoor learning area for children and families.
The space covers just 0.05 acres. It needed the right elevations and drainage so the surface would be safe for public use, and its layout and utilities had to fit the library expansion inside that small footprint.
The pathway
MES prepared detailed grading plans for the learning area. The plans set the site elevations, directed drainage and gave children and families a safe surface.
MES also designed the civil systems for the new area. The team coordinated the site layout and the utility needs so the expansion worked within its 0.05-acre footprint.
The result
The outdoor learning area opened in Summer 2022. It now serves children and families in the community as a safe, usable outdoor space.
