About the project

The problem

A mobile home park in Commerce City, Colorado, needed its water lines replaced. The owner needed approved plans that a contractor could build from.

The scope ran from permitting and design through agency reviews and into construction.

The pathway

Work began in September 2023. The park was surveyed by others in November 2023. Over the winter the team prepared the design documents, updated the cost estimate and answered review comments with a response letter.

In January 2024 MES met with the client. In February 2024 MES met the contractor on site, updated the cover, notes, utility and construction detail sheets, then submitted the plans and exported shapefiles.

Plan revisions continued from May to July 2024, and in August the team worked on contractor proposals. In November 2024 MES built a hydraulic model in EPANET and updated the survey and utility sheets. The plans then went through another round of city comments and revisions.

The result

In December 2024 MES picked up the approved plans and delivered them. MES attended the pre-construction meeting on site in January 2025.

Construction photos show new blue water pipe laid in deep open trenches beside the homes, with an excavator working behind the spoil piles.

Construction is finished. Since the new line went in, residents no longer complain about water pressure.
