About the project
The problem
The Arabian Acres Metropolitan District serves a disadvantaged community in Teller County, Colorado. Its water treatment and distribution systems both needed significant improvements.
The district qualified for SRF loans and grants.
The pathway
MES delivered two connected projects, one for treatment and one for distribution.
For treatment, MES designed two groundwater treatment plants. Grading plans set the site elevations for plant operations and drainage.
MES coordinated the utility design so it tied into the existing systems. MES also designed the treatment processes and specified the mechanical equipment the plants need to run.
MES ran cut and fill calculations to optimize the earthwork. The facilities MES designed also included one elevated water storage tank.
For distribution, MES built a hydraulic model of the network to check flow and pressure. MES also prepared the design drawing packages for the new pipe network.
The result
The district gained designs for two groundwater treatment plants, an elevated tank and a new pipe network, covering its water system from treatment through distribution.
The treatment processes were designed around the community's needs and to meet regulatory standards.
The drawing packages were prepared to guide construction and installation of the new pipe network.
