About the project
The problem
Morrison Creek Metropolitan Water and Sanitation District needed a new wastewater treatment plant to meet the changing needs of its Routt County, Colorado community.
Demand in the district's service area was also growing. The water system needed more storage, plus pumping and pressure control, to keep distribution reliable.
The pathway
For the new 0.35 MGD plant, MES delivered the civil site design. That covered grading, utilities, paving, stormwater drainage and cut and fill calculations for the earthwork.
The paving was designed to carry heavy vehicles and equipment across the facility.
MES then provided on-site construction observation, checking progress and quality against the design.
For the water system, MES prepared the preliminary design of a new 500,000-gallon storage tank, a booster pump station and a pressure reducing valve (PRV) system.
MES also built cost estimates for the district's budget and wrote a recommendations report on site improvements and project needs.
The result
Drone photos from January 2023 show the plant structure going up in deep snow.
By November 2023, the photos show the plant's steel roof frame over its concrete basins.
The district has a preliminary design, cost estimates and a recommendations report to carry the tank, booster station and PRV into later phases.
