What we do in Colorado

Water and wastewater engineering in Castle Rock

MES designs water, sewer and site civil work for projects in Castle Rock and the rest of Douglas County. We work for developers, property owners, districts and other engineering firms.

Work here includes water and sewer main extensions, lift stations, grading and drainage, and small treatment plants where no sewer is close enough. Our Colorado office is in Golden.

How review works in Castle Rock

Castle Rock is a home rule town and the Douglas County seat. Castle Rock Water runs the town water and sewer system, including its sewer lines and lift stations.

The town wastewater is treated by the Plum Creek Water Reclamation Authority, which Castle Rock shares with two neighboring metropolitan districts.

Land outside town limits is reviewed by Douglas County. Water and sewer there often come from a metropolitan district or a water and sanitation district.

Most of Castle Rock drains to Plum Creek and on to Chatfield Reservoir. A state control regulation limits phosphorus in that watershed, and the Chatfield Watershed Authority comments on wastewater site applications there. CDPHE makes the final site location and design decision.

Work near Castle Rock

East of Castle Rock in Elizabeth, MES led the design of a 10-inch waterline extension of about 4,600 feet to serve commercial growth. We reviewed contractor submittals and visited the site during construction. To the south, MES has completed drive-up water kiosk sites in Colorado Springs and Fountain as part of a multi-state kiosk program.

Common questions

Who provides water and sewer in Castle Rock?

Inside town limits, Castle Rock Water. Outside the town, service often comes from a district, so we confirm the provider before design starts.

Does a new lift station near Castle Rock need state approval?

In most cases, yes. A lift station above 2,000 gallons per day needs CDPHE site location and design approval under Regulation 22. In the Chatfield watershed, the Chatfield Watershed Authority also comments on the site application.

How do I start a Castle Rock project with MES?
