Where we work
Civil engineering for Colorado land development: grading, drainage, paving and utility layout, with CDPHE stormwater coverage and local plan review.
MES does site civil design for Colorado developments, from small infill lots to mountain sites. We prepare the plan set and the reports a city or county needs to approve the site.
The work covers grading, drainage, paving, erosion control, and the layout of water and sewer lines. We stay on through agency comments until the plans are approved.
Each city or county reviews site plans and drainage reports against its own criteria. Across much of the Denver metro area, drainage design draws on the Mile High Flood District Urban Storm Drainage Criteria Manual.
Construction that disturbs one acre or more, or that is part of a larger plan that will, needs coverage under the CDPHE construction stormwater general permit. The owner and the operator both sign the application.
Water and sewer lines must meet the provider standards and the CDPHE rules on separation between water and sewer lines. On tight sites, that spacing can shape the whole layout.
In Lakewood, MES handled paving, grading, drainage and utility layout for a six-home infill site on 0.75 acres. Also in Lakewood, we graded an outdoor learning area at a public library that opened in summer 2022.
In Kremmling, our cabin development civil set covered the site plan, grading, storm sewer, water and sewer networks, a fire truck analysis and an erosion control plan, with a drainage report for agency review.
Usually a site plan, grading and drainage plans, utility plans, erosion control and details, plus a drainage report. The exact list depends on the city or county.
In most places, yes. Even a small site has to move water away from homes to an approved discharge point. On our Lakewood infill site, the grading sent runoff away from the homes toward compliant discharge points.
Yes. We have done civil work in mountain towns such as Kremmling. Call (214) 833-6748 to talk about your site.
